“Angels sent to earth in the form of nurses”

A local woman from Tower Hamlets is now recovering at home after being discharged from The Royal London where she was treated for Covid-19.

Roshnara Bibi was admitted to hospital on 25 December 2020 after contracting Covid-19 two weeks prior.

Roshnara, a previous dental nurse, said: “I remember becoming unwell on the 18 December and my husband was unwell for around four days before.

“We were both struggling to breath and had fevers over 40 degrees, I also suffered from vomiting too.

“We called an ambulance around 8.30 in the morning and I was at The Royal London Hospital two hours later. I was transferred straight to critical care.

“I am from health background, so was aware of the dangers of Covid-19. I was wearing a mask and gloves in public and my thoughts at the time were that people were not taking Covid-19 seriously.

“I think the reason for this was people just thought it wouldn’t happen to them.

“My family were extremely worried. My younger sister had the same symptoms as me and was also admitted to hospital for three weeks in early January.”

Roshnara described the staff at The Royal London Hospital as angels sent to earth in the form of nurses.

“They treated us like we were their daughters. Their love and dedication was priceless.

“The staff made my hospital experience special. It was clear they genuinely cared and no amount of money would make up for their selfless kindness.

“I noticed the bed spaces were coordinated brilliantly, like clockwork. As soon as one patient clocked out, it was thoroughly cleaned and ready for the next. The nurses were on the ball with everyone’s needs.

“I wish a made a note of everyone’s names. I remember one senior nurse Mariana Sana, she was simply amazing. I can't praise her enough and her healthcare assistant Nula. Dr Omar was great too; he was a true gentleman with an amazing bedside manner.”

Roshnara was discharged from hospital on 13 January and is recovering at home with her husband, who was also admitted to hospital.

“We are both ok. I still have more recovering to do as I'm struggling with fatigue.

“I'm due to go back to work on 4 March since being off work for almost three months. I will see how I get on at work - so fingers crossed.”
