What we do
What we do
ELoPe is an ambitious secondary care led programme seeking to reduce and prevent premature cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and health inequality across East and North East London, to ensure a healthier future for our population.
Our surrounding boroughs have some of the highest levels of early cardiovascular disease in the country, inclusing its underlying risk factors such as diabetes, smoking and obesity. The causes of these are complex and range from biological to social and environmental. ELoPe represents the desire from our healthcare professionals and universities to come together to lend their expertise and passion to tackling this growing challenge.

Healthy Heart assemblies for primary schools
Healthy heart education for children
We're delighted to offer free healthy heart talks to all primary schools in our local boroughs.
This successful and popular program is delivered in person and virtually by Barts Health cardiology experts.
Aimed at year six pupils, the sessions are fun, engaging and interactive, to educate children about the importance of heart health covering eating healthily, being active and a life without smoking, to reduce the reducing cases of CVD in the local population in the future, where the rates of heart disease are higher than anywhere else in London.

CPR training in secondary schools
CPR training for secondary school teachers
CPR training will soon be mandatory across all secondary schools in England.
To support this, in collaboration with our resuscitation team we are offering free CPR training to secondary school teachers in the Barts Health catchment area. The training will offer teachers the confidence and competence to deliver CPR training to their pupils.
Training dates are offered to secondary school teachers from Tower Hamlets, Newham and Waltham Forest. Sessions will be held at Barts Health or in the local community.
City talks for a healthier workforce
A healthier workforce
To improve the health of our City workers, we have launched webinars for the local business community on cardiovascular disease prevention, led by our consultant cardiologists in their spare time. The aim is to reduce the CVD risk in the local community and within the City workforce.
If you want to look after your staff, improve wellbeing and reduce sickness and largely preventable longt-term conditions, then please get in touch.
There is no set fee, but firms will be asked to make a donation to help raise funds for ELoPE projects, such as the Healthy Heart school talks. All funds raised go directly into running the programme.
Free heart checks for all staff
Free heart checks for all staff
With a commitment to the health and happiness of our employees, we provide free comprehensive cardiovascular checks to all staff, where staff may assess their height, weight, and BMI, and measure their blood pressure and heart age.
They will receive personalised lifestyle advice and referrals to smoking cessation services where needed.
Should any staff member be found with high blood pressure during their appointment, they will be offered a free blood pressure machine so they can monitor this at home. Our dedicated CVD nurses will follow up and refer them to their GP if necessary.
