Our aim is to be the most sustainable NHS trust

We want to make lasting and measurable changes to those who live in east London and beyond, addressing some of the key health and social inequalities within our communities.

Our sustainability strategy supports this vision, aiming to address and improve the environmental, social and financial impact of our trust, its communities and the wider NHS, by delivering projects that make our hospitals and communties more sustainable.

Our hospitals

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and are working to make our buildings stronger and better for the future by investing in infrastructure, encouraging sustainable work habits, promoting walking and biking, all through teamwork to support a greener future.

Sustainability - our communities

Our communities

We are committed to make health and life better for everyone. We will help our communities by working on four main areas: reducing fuel poverty, improving air quality, sustainable growing, and food and nutrition education.

Through our partnerships, we will strive create good jobs, training opportunities, and chances for people to volunteer with us.

The wider NHS

We will keep leading the NHS by sharing our best ideas and new ways of doing things. On NHS Sustainability Days, we bring together different groups to work as a team and share insight.

We will keep pushing our sustainability agenda in our London boroughs, making sure the city stays a leader in green practices. We will also look for ways to gain financial revenue opportunities by creating useful products that help both Barts Health and the NHS.
