Quran cubes a source of spiritual strength and comfort to critically ill patients
To support end of life care at Barts Health, our chaplaincy team has been working with local Muslim faith groups to support pastoral and religious needs for COVID-19 patients and other seriously ill Muslim patients.
Because of this, we have been able to source a number of small Islamic cubes called Quran cubes, that once charged can recite the Quran through a speaker. These are small devices, about the size of can of soft drink, that can be placed beside the patients bed.
The cubes contain readings of the Quran in 12 different languages from a variety of different readers. It is also possible to listen to Hadiths, Nasheeds, the Call to Prayer and the Names of Allah.
The cubes have recently been placed in a number of hospitals in the North West and, thanks to the generosity of the Bhailok family, Whipps Cross Hospital is now the proud owner of ten cubes.
James Grenfell, Chaplain at Whipps Cross Hospital commented: "We have been really pleased to receive this donation. It will allow our critically ill patients to listen to the words of the Quran during their time in hospital. Many patients have found this to be a source of spiritual strength and comfort, particularly in situations when relatives are not able to visit."
