Peter Murray's walk concludes

On Friday 4 December, 86-year-old Peter Murray completed a 1000 mile walk around Walthamstow – raising more than £7,000 for the Whipps Cross University Hospital League of Friends.

Sky News broadcast Peter's arrival live across the country, as he was welcomed by Whipps Cross Chief Executive Alan Gurney and a team of hospital staff cheering him on.

Peter's walk and fundraiser was motivated by his twin sister Madge, who was admitted to Whipps Cross Hospital earlier this year with Covid-19.

Madge recovered from Covid-19, and Peter has been deeply grateful to the team at Whipps Cross for Madge's treatment and care.

Starting in May, Peter walked around 5 miles a day, and then 10 miles a day after lockdown was lifted.

When asked how he felt at the end of his trek, Peter said he felt he could do another one.

Peter Murray's arrival at Whipps Cross Hospital after his 1000 miles charity walk "It feels great...my sister came out of hospital after being treated for coronavirus, and I felt I had to follow in the footsteps of Captain Tom," said Peter.

Peter was moved on seeing the reception from Whipps Cross staff: "I wasn't expecting this!"
