Giant rainbow thank you card at Whipps Cross

Kazzum Arts, with the help of artist Jo Paul, and the children of Waltham Forest, have created a huge rainbow thank you card that has been placed in the link bridge of Whipps Cross Hospital. The rainbow has created a space where NHS staff can stop, connect, take away a message of support and thanks made by the children of E10 and write their own words of support and comfort for other hospital staff.

Kazzum Arts said: “We are so happy to be able to offer a small token of gratitude and thanks to the amazing team at Whipps Cross Hospital, who are working tirelessly on the front line of this pandemic.”

Jo organised the project in collaboration with her neighbours and children who live in the area via a neighbourhood WhatsApp group. Children posted the drawings to Jo through her letterbox and photos of drawings were sent, to ensure social distancing was observed in creating the project.

You can view the full slideshow of over 70 rainbow drawings that were donated on our Youtube channel.

Kazzum Arts have worked closely with Whipps Cross Hospital since 2011 and, in particular, with Acorn children’s ward to deliver their Apollo project. This project involves the team taking over schooling activities at children’s bedsides in hospital and in the play room. They encourage the children to take part in installations and art exhibitions that take place in the main corridor outside Acorn Ward and inside the ward.

The projects focus on three outcomes, the first being to reduce isolation as they enable children to meet other young people and different types of adults. The second is to reduce anxiety, as lots of children feel anxious just by being hospitalised and the third outcome is to increase art and interpersonal skills.

Kazzum Arts added: “We're really looking forward to continuing our work with the children at Whipps Cross Hospital when it is safe to do so.”
