Two former Barts Health staff have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

We are pleased to announce that Mark Turner has been appointed our interim Group Director of Strategy and Planning. Mark joins us from NHS England and Improvement, where he has been Regional Director of Commissioning for London since April 2019.

It was lights, camera, action this week as colleagues featured in two BBC London pieces on how we are managing Omicron and looking after staff during the next challenge of the pandemic.

We are happy to announce that Dr Magda Smith has been appointed as Group Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Barts Health. Magda is joining us from Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), where she has been Chief Medical Officer for the past three years.  

GASP was born back in 2018 when two anaesthetic trainees grew fed up of the amount of waste that was being produced in theatres.
