Professor Louise Hicks, Chief Nursing Information Officer(CNIO) and Director of Development at Barts Health has been awarded CNIO of the year by Digital Health.

Digital Health is a nationwide organisation providing cutting edge development, networks and digital transformation insight across all healthcare digital groups.

Louise has been recognised for her work in clinical informatics and digital transformation. Particularly, with previous successes in digital transformation which began with electronic nursing documentation in 2019, led by Louise, helped to empower and inspire nursing staff and instilled confidence for this next step in digital transformation.

The success of this initiative within the scale, pace and climate in which it was delivered would not have been possible without Louise’s leadership.

Louise was nominated for the CNIO award by her team. In their nomination, they said:

“Louise is a truly inspirational nursing leader and a true master of change and improvement with exceptional ability to engage and motivate teams, creating positive energy to stimulate creativity, enthusiasm and unrivalled success”

”Louise is a true digital champion. Pushing the agenda on the use of technology and informatics to improve practice, address unwarranted variations and enhance outcomes”

“What Louise also sees as essential is enjoying the journey, valuing people participation and the celebration of accomplishments no matter how big or small”

“Above all, she succeeds by engaging people, creating a social movement, made by many and peer driven to a shared vision and goal.”

On receiving the news, Louise said:

“The award is a real recognition of how far we have come at Barts Health in our digital development through our We Connect programme. Nursing leadership has been central to this alongside an amazing multiprofessional team. The award nomination included recognition of my leadership, but the real success is the collective We Connect team..”
