From our Physician Response Unit to ED and discharging patients, #TeamBartsHealth has been featured in the media a lot over the last week. We've made a round-up of the stories for you to sink your teeth into.
Spotlighting 12 hours in A&E, and reducing pressures with The Times
The Times had exclusive access to the Emergency Department at The Royal London Hospital, where they followed the busy 12-hour shift of the nurse in charge, Ana Magalhaes, meeting many clinical colleagues and patients throughout the day.
Two articles were published as an outcome. The first piece documents staff morale, the mutual support and friendship between teams, and the ups and downs of navigating a shift.
The second article spotlights our Physician Response Unit, and the Remote Emergency Access Coordination Hub (REACH) initiatives and how they reduce pressures in the department.
We want to say a massive thank you to Ana Magalhaes, Adam Woodgate, Amy Hooton and Alastair Bursey, and all staff who gave their time to talk or allowed us to shadow them while working.
The BBC and Karl Mercer visit Newham Hospital's discharge team and ED
In addition to the above, last week also saw Newham Hospital host Karl Mercer, health correspondent for BBC London.
Karl and his cameraman came to visit members of the hospital’s discharge team, to learn about and showcase the work they do to get patients home as quickly and as safely as possible, and how they do so by working in partnership with local partners.
They also paid a visit to ED where they spoke to colleagues about the pressures they’ve been under in recent months and how things are now.
A big thank you to all who gave their time to be featured, in particular Amanda Finnegan, Gill Parry and Mahmuda Khanom. The piece was shown on BBC One at 6:30pm last night (14 February) as part of BBC London News‘ NHS London Healthcheck’ series, which is running all week.
