Farewell from Dame Alwen Williams

Alwen Williams

As I retire from the NHS, it's time for me to hand over the baton to Shane DeGaris and all my brilliant Barts Health colleagues, to continue on our journey of improvement and to make this an exemplary organisation where we all feel like WeBelong.

I’m proud that our Board has made inclusion its top priority once again, and it needs to guide all that we do for our patients and for each other. After all, equity and fairness are at the core of the NHS – a universal service free to all at the point of care.

I would also like to thank all colleagues for the support you've given me since 2015 – your hard work, professionalism, kindness and so much more. Words really aren't enough to describe my gratitude.

Together with our partners across the north east London system, I have no doubt that you will continue to provide the best care for patients and to tackle health inequalities.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Dame Alwen Williams

Departing group chief executive Barts Health NHS Trust
