Emergency series follows trauma team saving lives minute by minute
The Royal London Hospital’s major trauma teams are featuring in a second series of ground-breaking trauma documentary, ‘Emergency’, on Channel 4.
With access right across this system, the four-episode medical documentary series follows the minute-by-minute decisions trauma teams make to treat the most serious cases: from cutting-edge surgery to painstaking rehabilitation.
The series will broadcast over two weeks on Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 August on Channel 4 as well as being available to watch on All 4.
The Royal London is one of the four Major Trauma centres in London featured in the series, as well as St Mary’s, St Georges’ and King’s College hospitals. They feature alongside the London’s Air Ambulance, and trauma units at North Middlesex University Hospital and the William Harvey Hospital.
Filmed during the busiest two weeks at the end of July 2022, Emergency follows patients throughout the trauma pathway. From roadside critical interventions, through resus to intensive care, from surgery to rehabilitation to reflect the variety of specialist treatment that went into saving patients’ lives and putting them back together again.

A world-first system of hospitals, air ambulances and paramedics providing a safety net for 10 million lives, the London Major Trauma System, has improved survival rates for major trauma patients by 50%.
