Deborah goes to the World Transplant Games
Deborah Chudy, improvement manager at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, is representing Team GB at the World Transplant Games, which opened on Sunday 25 June in Malaga.
Deborah received a kidney in 2009, 24 years after being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. She is taking part in the swimming, doubles tennis and padel tennis events.
To compete in the games, athletes must obtain a medical certificate to prove they are able to take part in the games. Part of the certification process requires athletes to undergo a cardiac stress test and Deborah took hers in St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Deborah said: “I had never competed before my operation, but I decided to take part in the British Transplant Games nine months after receiving the transplant. I feel honoured to be representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland at this year’s World Transplant Games. Competing in the games is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of life saving organ transplantation.”
