Celebrating our heroes

Our staff have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony for going above and beyond to care for patients and colleagues in east London.
Teams and individuals from across our hospitals - Whipps Cross, Newham, Mile End, The Royal London and St Bartholomew's - were recognised in this year's Barts Health Heroes awards.
Alwen Williams, Chief Executive of Barts Health NHS Trust, said: "We are delivering a fantastic range of improvements for local people; we should be very proud."
The winning teams and individuals were selected from a record 1069 nominations by a panel of staff, patients and partners. Those awarded were chosen for embodying the Trust’s core values such as being welcoming and respectful.
There was extra reason to celebrate, with the awards coming in the same week that the Care Quality Commission lifted Barts Health out of special measures for quality having recognised a number of improvements in the care provided.
Alwen Williams, Chief Executive of Barts Health NHS Trust, said: "I extend congratulations to everyone nominated in this year's awards. Thank you for everything you do to give excellent care. My thanks also go to colleagues and partners including Barts Charity for your unstinting support. This week shows that we are delivering a fantastic range of improvements for local people; we should be very proud."
Barts Charity also awarded special fundraiser and ambassador awards to staff who have gone the extra mile to raise charitable funds.
Addressing all Barts Health staff, Chair Ian Peters said: "This year we have seen a record 1,069 nominations - almost twice that received last year. It speaks volumes about the incredible feats that you make happen every day at Barts Health. Thank you all for everything you do."
Each individual winner receives £500 and teams receive £1000, kindly sponsored by Barts Charity. In addition, every nominee receives a certificate honouring their achievement and an invitation to a celebratory lunch hosted by Chair Ian Peters.
