Barts Health nurses crowned bake off winners at Nursing Times Awards

The Children’s Clinical Research Facility team has been unveiled as the official Nursing Times Awards bake off champions.
The team won a prize of £250 worth of vouchers for their creative gingerbread recreation of the old Royal London Hospital building, complete with medical staff, a helipad and helicopter. The design even has its own video and a song sang by a member of staff’s son.
The team were also runners up for the Clinical Research Nursing category, although the team weren’t the only Barts Health staff to be recognised at the award ceremony, Siobhan Cockram, A&E nurse and LGBTQ+ Network co-site lead was a finalist for the Rising Star award for her work creating an LGBTQ+ nursing link-role. Barts Health teams were also nominated for the HRH The Prince of Wales Integrated Approaches to Care award and the Team of the Year award.
Theresa Simangan, Senior Paeditric Research Nurse, said: “We are extremely happy to have been in the finals for the Clinical Research Nursing Category. It means a lot to our team as we are trying to raise our profile within the trust and to the community that we serve. We are thankful to our patients and our colleagues who supported us in this journey with our nomination. We couldn’t be prouder to win the bake off challenge!”
The winner and runners up were announced at the Nursing Times Awards, which took place on Wednesday (30 October) night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
All of the finalists in the Nursing Times Awards were sent a gingerbread hospital kit to put together and ice as extravagantly as they pleased, before displaying the results on Twitter.
