heir Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall today (Tuesday 6 June 2017) visited patients cared for by staff at The Royal London Hospital following the London terror attack.

The Royal couple visited and spoke with patients recovering from their injuries. They also met with members of the hospital’s accident and emergency teams, London’s Air Ambulance and London’s Ambulance Service, thanking them for their efforts.

The hospital, run by Barts Health NHS Trust, is based close to the scene of the attacks in London’s East End and received 12 patients.

Alwen Williams, Chief Executive of Barts Health NHS Trust, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to our hospital. It meant a great deal to our staff, and I am proud that they continue to provide such compassionate care to our patients. Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the events of last weekend.”

Dr Chris Lambert, advanced trauma doctor with London’s Air Ambulance, and on duty during the London Bridge attacks said: “I was honoured to meet TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall today and explain how our medics responded during the London Bridge attacks. London’s Air Ambulance were able to deploy multiple teams to the scene to help triage injured patients, and the thoughts and prayers of all at the charity are with those who lost loved ones or who have been affected by the incident.

“It is always a great privilege to work alongside fellow members of the emergency services and never more so than on Saturday night, when during a time of unimaginable horror, the professionalism and dedication of the London emergency services and trauma network shone through.”

Hospital staff commented: “It has been a tough few days so it was really lovely to have Their Royal Highnesses visit our unit and show they are thinking of us”; “Even though we’re used to treating very ill people, this weekend’s events was particularly traumatic. We’re an incredibly close team and have been delighted by today’s visit.”
