A space for all
Last Friday saw the grand opening of our new wellbeing hub by group CEO Alwen Williams, acting CEO for the hospital Simon Ashton and Catriona Rowland, our wellbeing lead.
Colleagues from across the hospital attended the event, and were welcomed with lots of treats including free tea, coffee and snacks, goodie bags and wonderful singing by the incredibly talented Kathleen Lopez, a scrub nurse from the theatres team.
The space – which was funded by Barts Charity – is a dedicated haven for those working at Newham Hospital to relax and unwind.
Situated in St Andrew’s Wing on the ground floor of the hospital, right by the reception desk, the hub boasts comfortable chairs, tables, mini fridges and a coffee machine with free milk, coffee and sugar!
It's fantastic to have our new staff wellbeing hub open
Inside the hub, there is a separate room for some additional private downtime, which is where the UEL sports massages will take place in the coming weeks. Massage chairs will also be placed in the hub for staff to use, and the projection screen installed means that staff movie nights can be held in the hub in the coming months
Speaking on the opening of the hub, Simon Ashton, acting CEO for Newham Hospital said: "It's fantastic to have our new staff wellbeing hub open. I hope that having a beautiful space, with brilliant facilities, available for everyone will help more colleagues take some time for themselves. Thank you to Barts Charity for funding this hub - it will make a big difference to our hospital."
Immediately outside of the hub is the Globe Garden. This garden space is itself being overhauled in time for the summer months, to provide an additional wellbeing space just for staff.
Access to the wellbeing hub is via swipe access. All staff should be able to enter the hub with their ID card but if you are unable to gain entry, please visit the security hub on the ground floor, West Entrance, to have access added to your card.
