Dr Mark Rawle

Consultant at Whipps Cross Hospital
  • Dr Rawle graduated from Liverpool University, and completed his medical training in both Merseyside and North Central London. His clinical work focusses on providing early comprehensive assessment and care for older persons, as part of the Rapid Access Frailty Team at Whipps Cross. He works both in the acute hospital and the community.
  • He has a Masters’ degree in Gerontology from King’s College London, and is currently completing a further higher research degree. He holds an honorary contract with the MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing. His research focusses primarily on the impact of medication use on physical and cognitive function in later life.
  • He is actively involved in teaching and training, and has provided external tuition services to the World Health Organization as part of the Decade of Healthy Ageing Programme.

Research interests

Dr Rawle has published multiple papers on risk factors for cognitive and physical decline in later life. His work centres predominantly on the impact of medication use throughout the life-course on health in later life.

His current work utilises electronic health records to explore associations between anticholinergic medication use, delirium and dementia.

He provides research supervision for clinical fellows working on projects pertinent to the specific care needs of older adults in the local area.

Dr Rawle is research lead for Older Person’s Services (OPS) at Barts Health, and Whipps Cross OPS Lead for Delirium and Dementia.
