Mr Khurram graduated from King Edward medical school in Pakistan. His PhD looked at the novel ways to increase the donor kidney pool. Based on his work, the technique was initially popularised in Newcastle and now several centres in UK use restored organs. The higher surgical training was in largest transplant units across London (Kidney, Pancreas and Liver).He was UKs first Paediatric Surgical Transplant Fellow before taking consultant role at Royal London.

His interests and expertise include 

• Renal transplantation

• Complex vascular access 

• Paediatric and adolescent transplantation

• Robotic surgery

• Access to transplantation for highly sensitised patients

• Abdominal wall reconstruction for transplant related complex incisional hernias

• Educator at Royal college of Surgeons

Research interests

Mr Khurram has an active and diverse research portfolio

Some of the research interests include:

• Genomics in transplantation – currently undertaking HEE funded higher degree from University of Cambridge

• Tumours in transplantation

• Highly sensitised patients access to transplantation 

• Use of novel tool to improve patient education

• Machine perfusion

• Artificial intelligence and Machine learning in vascular access and transplantation 

• Paediatric transplantation

 

Mr Khurram has in excess of 50 international and national presentations, 14 peer reviewed publications and is recipient of multiple research grants and has won several national and international prizes for his research.
