Dr Macavei is a Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine with interest in sleep-disordered breathing and non-invasive ventilation at Newham Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.


Dr Macavei has an active role in medical education as the Associate Dean for Undergraduates at Newham Hospital and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Research interests

Dr Macavei has co-authored guidelines on perioperative management of obstructive sleep apnoea and non-invasive ventilation and has multiple publications in the field.

Dr Macavei is a passionate educator having organised teaching sessions for undergraduates and healthcare professionas in the field of non-invasive ventilation and sleep disorders. Dr Macavei is a member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), British Thoracic Society (BTS), Society of Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia (SOBA) and National Association of Clinical Tutors (NACT).
