NHS70 special: 60 seconds with Mandy Hartman

What is your current job?

I work as a community outreach coordinator for the Royal London Hospital, but am also involved with teams at Mile End.

What do you like most about your job?

My job involves engaging with the local community and helping patients receive a continuity of care when they are discharged or in need of further support. Knowing that you are a part of their road to recovery is very rewarding.

What has been your biggest challenge?

It is always hard when elements of a patient's care are outside of your control, such as relying on updates about housing or other external care / social support systems. I have had to learn to be patient!

What one thing would make Barts Health a better place in which to work and be cared for?

If I could speed up the waiting time that some of our patients face when waiting for support from other external services - I would!

How would you spend an ideal day off?

Walking the dog and cooking a nice Sunday roast dinner.

Tell us something surprising about yourself?

I have recently taken up skiing lessons, something I never thought I would be able to do. The trips to Milton Keynes Snowdome are worth it!
