Mini Mouth Care Matters
Did you know there are more bacteria in your mouth than people in the world? Poor oral hygiene can lead to a whole host of general health conditions, from gum disease to heart disease.
Let’s put the mouth back in the body!
Mini Mouth Care Matters launches THIS WEEK across The Royal London Children’s Hospital! This ‘mini’ version of the Mouth Care Matters (MCM) Health Education England initiative aims to improve the overall health of children in hospital by improving their oral health. Research shows that hospitalised patients are at high risk of poor oral hygiene and have an increased need for regular mouth care to prevent poor health outcomes, longer hospital stays and increased care costs.
Barts Mini MCM is being rolled out by the Dental, Speech and Language Therapy, Nursing and Play teams across all wards on the 7th floor. We will be rolling out training, resources and support across the Children’s Hospital to empower medical and allied healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills and support they need to ‘lift the lip’ and ensure patients have access to regular mouth care whilst in hospital. Let’s make every contact count!
