Beryl Sharp retires after 15 years
Last week The Royal London Hospital held a tea party to say farewell to our beloved colleague Beryl Sharp, who is retiring.
Beryl first worked for Barts Health over 15 years ago as a ward housekeeper, then moved to an orthopaedic ward, before joining our Older Peoples Services on ward 14F.
She has been “Auntie Beryl” to us all in the time she has worked with us, and her retirement (though very well deserved) will leave a hole in our ward.
She has inspired nurses to work with us, including Gladys Ngwasiri who worked with Beryl as a student nurse and was mentored by her. Gladys is now the deputy ward manager on 14F.
Also Magda Maj, who first met Beryl on her first day as a health care assistant on 14F and was shown the ropes by her. Madga has now completed her nurse training and is a band 5 nurse in the dementia and delirium team.
Claire Dow, Consultant Community Geriatrician, shared these kind words: "I first met Beryl when I was a specialist registrar at The Royal London Hospital in 2004-2005 and had a huge hug and welcome back from her when I returned as a consultant in 2007. I always relax when working if I see that Beryl is on duty as I know that she knows her patients so well and contributes to the calm running of the ward".
Sarah Capsey, senior nurse for OPS and AAU, also added "Beryl’s continued calm, caring and respectful presence in all she does and her love for her patients shines through every day”.
We will miss you Beryl, and wish you a very happy retirement!
