Supply Chain team wins national award for excellence

Behind every patient treated and every procedure performed at Barts Health is a network of people working tirelessly to make sure the right supplies are always where they’re needed.

That’s why we’re proud to celebrate our Supply Chain team, winners of the Public Sector Supply Chain Excellence Award at this year’s Supply Chain Excellence Awards.

Leaders from across the logistics and supply chain community came together at London’s Grosvenor House, where 26 winners were selected from more than 220 entries - celebrating innovation and measurable progress across sectors including healthcare, manufacturing and retail.

The team manages 95% of hospital consumables across our four hospital sites, transforming how supply operations support patient care. Through the introduction of a centralised Inventory Management System, they’ve achieved real-time stock visibility and smarter, data-led decisions - reducing waste, improving efficiency and freeing up clinical time.

Their innovative use of data and collaborative working across North-East London has delivered significant financial savings and strengthened resilience. From optimising stock levels to bulk glove procurement and regional redistribution of supplies, their work has helped avoid waste worth hundreds of thousands of pounds while ensuring care continues uninterrupted.

Sustainability is at the heart of what they do. By consolidating deliveries and making better use of space, the team is reducing carbon emissions and supporting the Trust’s green goals.

Did you know?

Over the past six months, the team’s data-led processes have prevented £480,000 worth of stock from expiring - protecting budgets, reducing waste and supporting a greener NHS.
