Journalism featuring Barts Health scoops prestigious awards

Two media pieces that featured The Royal London Hospital were crowned winners at last night’s Medical Journalists' Association Awards.

BBC News presenter Clive Myrie won broadcast ‘News Story of the Year’ and the Economist’s 1843 Magazine journalist Simon Akam won specialist audience ‘Feature of the Year’.

In January we invited Clive Myrie to The Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, to see the true impact of the second wave of the pandemic on our staff, patients and their families.

For three months, Simon Akam and 1843 Magazine followed staff at The Royal London Hospital as they cared for Covid-19  patients during the first wave of the pandemic.

Although the reports were based at The Royal London, they reflected what staff across the trust (and across the entire NHS) experienced while many NHS workers doing their best to care for patients in the most challenging of circumstances.
