Barts Life Sciences benefits from £1.5 million in funding
The Government have announced that Barts Life Sciences will benefit from the award of £1.5million in funding. The Minister for Universities and Science, Chris Skidmore MP, made the announcement at a visit to Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)'s Whitechapel campus.
Queen Mary University of London is one of twenty University Enterprise Zones that have been launched by Research England with the aim of strengthening links between universities and businesses.
The funding has been awarded for a proposal to convert space the Queen Mary's Innovation Centre, which is included in the plans for an innovative Life Sciences centre in Whitechapel. The creation of a Life Sciences campus in Whitechapel is one of the key objectives of Barts Health NHS Trust and QMUL.
The collaboration between QMUL and Barts Health will translate our research expertise into the creation of a cutting edge innovative centre. The funding will enable the University and Barts to bridge the gap to towards achieving ambitious plans associated with the Barts Life Sciences initiative.
Based on land close to The Royal London Hospital it will bring together and facilitate interactions between healthcare professionals, innovators, researchers and others. It will also act a catalyst for capital growth and help deliver jobs and inclusive innovation through community engagement in driving new and improved health outcomes in Tower Hamlets, as well as in the neighbouring boroughs of Newham and Hackney.
Working in partnership tenants at the site will be able to call on a wealth of clinical data from the extraordinarily diverse local population in order help transform care and the performance of health and care services.
