Success for Barts' first cohort of Project Search interns

Project Search graduation at SBH 2023

Congratulations to the first cohort of project search interns at St Bartholomew’s Hospital on their graduation.

The graduation ceremony took place last week in the Great Hall of the North Wing, to celebrate the interns completing their three placements in the hospital across the last ten months.

The students are from our local boroughs and completed their placements through the Project Search programme, which was set up to give young adults aged 17-24 with learning disabilities the opportunity to gain real-life work experience.

Natalie, our project search graduate said: “working at St Bartholomew’s Hospital has been amazing, I have learnt many new skills and my mentors have been very supportive.

“I now have a job working in the Fontanella coffee shop and my dream in the future would be to open my own bakery. My Mum is no longer with us, but I know she would be very proud of me.”

The interns worked in a range of areas in the hospital including the coffee shop, cardiac physiology, cath labs and cardiac imaging, linen, portering and various other wards and departments.

Following the graduation, another intern is joining McDonalds as a crew member, whilst others are undertaking interviews in search for work.

Justin Creigh, deputy chief executive at Barts Hospital said: ““ I would like to congratulate all of our interns on their graduation. They have truly demonstrated their talents and have been essential to our workforce and providing care to our patients at the hospital.”

“I am delighted that Barts Hospital is part of their employment journey, and a place where they were able to develop their confidence and skills and grow as individuals. I wish them all the very best for their futures.”

In September 2023 Barts Hospital will welcome 13 new Project Search interns again.
