Dr Sushma Saksena
Consultant at The Royal London HospitalDr Sushma Saksena, FRCP, MD, DM is a consultant Hepatologist at the Royal London Hospital. She is an AIIMS alumni, trained at the Northern Deanery at Newcastle and was consultant Hepatologist in the North East before moving to London. Her main areas of interest are viral hepatitis, hepatic encephalopathy, palliative/ best supportive care for liver cirrhosis patients and hepatic iron overload. She led her team to win the Anita Roddick Award in 2007 for the most improved Hepatitis C service in the country and the Chief Executive Award 2008. Her passion is medical education, and leadership, and holds a Masters in Clinical education and Fellowship of the North East Leadership Academy. She was Deputy Head, School of Medicine at Health Education North East. She is currently Associate Dean, undergraduate medicine at Royal London Hospital, Metabolic 3a Module lead and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Queen Mary University of London. She loves food, music, theatre and long walks.
Research interests
She has published widely, her main areas of research include hepatic encephalopathy and non alcoholic steato-hepatitis. She is Associate Editor, Clinical Medicine and current areas of interest are iron overload states within the liver and innovation in medical education
